Google Analytics to track traffic to your blog

How do you track the traffic to your blog once you have installed WordPress on your hosting site ? Google Analytics seem to be really good for this and it’s free, so here’s how I made it work for my site.

  1. Download the google analytics plugins from http://www.semiologic.com/software/marketing/google-analytics/
  2. Unzip the file and install the resulting folder into your wp-content/plugins folder where you installed wordpress
  3. Go to your wordpress admin page and select plugins.
  4. The google analytics plugin should now be available there.
  5. Activate it.
  6. Next, sign up for a google analytics account at http://www.google.com/analytics/
  7. Copy the legacy script code that is given to you when you setup the account
  8. Go back to your wordpress admin site and choose settings-google analytics.
  9. Paste the copied script in the provided area.
  10. Click Update Options.
  11. Go back to you google analytics account and you should see your account updating to start retrieving data from your blog.

Happy Tracking….
